Job Description
Supporting operations across Continental Europe, the Senior Commercial & Contracts Manager will play a key role in driving commercial excellence across the region. This position is not focused on sales or business development; instead, it provides leadership in pricing strategy, contract negotiation, commercial governance, risk management and bid support across multiple sectors and geographies.
Working closely with operational, finance, legal and business leaders, the successful candidate will oversee the commercial and contractual aspects of opportunities and projects, ensuring effective pricing, robust governance, sound risk management and successful project delivery across the region.
This role offers hybrid working from our Madrid office, with occasional travel to other Continental Europe locations as required.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Leadership & Planning
Develop and implement pricing strategies in our bids aligned with Country, Business Lines and Sector goals and growth plans.
Advise Continental Europe leadership on potential market risks, opportunities, pricing and commercial trends/ benchmarking to support our bids.
Work collaboratively with the rest of the Continental Europe business applying a consistent approach across the Countries and the Sectors.
Contract & Risk Management
Oversee negotiation and implementation of prime and subcontracts, NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements, and JV arrangements working collaboratively with the internal and external legal teams.
Ensure changes (additional scopes, variation orders, etc.) are managed rigorously with a focus on commercial implications of change, manage commercial risk and opportunity generally.
Ensure robust risk management procedures are embedded across bid and delivery phases.
Resolve contractual disputes and claims, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
Lead and implement internal governance process and interface with various corporate functions such as legal, tax, treasury, risk management, etc.
Commercial Oversight
Oversee and support financial project budgeting in conjunction with developing an effective project delivery model with project leads aligned to commercial goals
With support for the finance function provide effective project performance reporting across the portfolio.
Work with project leads to identify and assess change.
Monitor KPIs and cash flow to ensure commercial targets are met.
Leadership & Development
Support in the growth of the commercial team/ function, fostering a high-performance culture.
Coach and mentor staff on commercial best practices and contract management.
Promote diversity, succession planning, and continuous professional development.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strategic relationships with clients, sub-consultants, and key internal stakeholders to meet project objectives.
Represent the business in commercial negotiations (new projects and change control) and industry forums.
Attend client meetings/ interviews as required
Influence bid/ delivery strategy and support work-winning activities.

Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for:
Degree or equivalent in Business, Engineering, Law or related discipline.
Significant experience in contract, commercial, pricing and bid/tender management within engineering, infrastructure, defense, social infrastructure, energy, data centre or related professional services environments, including support for bid development, contract negotiations and commercial governance.
Experience supporting bid development, pricing strategies, contract negotiations and commercial governance within a multi-country environment.
Languages skills: Fluent English and Spanish or Italian is essential; additional European languages, particularly French, German or Swedish, would be advantageous.
Proven track record in leadership or key role with commercial and operational responsibilities.
Strong commercial acumen with a solid understanding of construction and engineering services procurement routes, contracting models, professional services frameworks, pricing methodologies, commercial benchmarking, and project delivery models across infrastructure, defence, social infrastructure, energy, and commercial sectors.
Experienced in negotiation and dispute resolution.
Effective communicator with outstanding interpersonal abilities.
Skilled in producing fee proposals, financial analysis, commercial reporting, and risk mitigation.
