Job Description

At Viva Energy Group, we're looking for an experienced Accountant to join our Retail Finance team and play a pivotal role in one of Australia's largest and most dynamic energy and convenience retail businesses.

Being 2IC to the Financial Controller the Accountant will be a key member of a highly dynamic & vibrant finance team.

The role will be responsible for most material financial statement areas of the business as well as drive the month end close process. These elements include but are not limited to Payroll & Leave, P & L Review and support and guidance for more junior team members of the finance team.

The Accountant will also play an active role in assisting the Financial Controller to lead key projects. Whilst the role will initially not have formal direct reports, opportunity to do so in the future is highly likely with support for growth provided. Outside of the finance team the role will have the opportunity to interact with other stakeholders such as heads of departments, banks & auditors.

Responsibilities & Requirements

• Oversee the month end close process.
• Responsible for maintaining and overseeing key FSA including Inventories Valuation, Payroll Expenses & Leave Provisions
• Process journals & accruals
• Review other finance team members working papers & reconciliations.
• Oversee the expense and revenue allocations including reviewing P & L’s and GL coding supplier invoices for AP.
• Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and ongoing variance analysis.
• Assist in the preparation of auditors’ files and liaise with auditors as required.
• Perform duties of the other accountant when they are on leave.
• Process owner for Bank & Cash Reconciliations
• Any other ad hoc duties as and when required by the Financial Controller

Qualifications

• Part-way through your CA or CPA qualification, or fully qualified, with a minimum of three years' experience in a similar role within industry or professional services.
• Demonstrated experience working within a high-performing, fast-paced environment.
• Proven ability to deliver accurate, high-quality financial accounting outcomes.
• Self-motivated with a strong commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and career growth.
• Adaptable and flexible in your approach, with the ability to respond effectively to changing business priorities and stakeholder needs.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets and financial information.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Willingness to take ownership, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and support a culture of operational excellence.
