Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

This position is part of the Health Economics Team within the Human Health Research Service Platform.  The Health Economist is responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality health economics services across the Human Health Research Services Platform. Working under the leadership of the Health Economist Team Lead, the role contributes to study design, research protocols and grant applications, evidence reviews, costing, economic evaluation, decision-analytic modelling, data analysis and the communication of findings.

The role takes ownership of assigned work within agreed project scopes, methods and timelines. It is expected to work with limited day-to-day supervision once an analysis plan has been agreed, while consulting the Team Lead on methodological decisions, priorities, risks and outputs requiring senior review. The position contributes to reproducible, policy-relevant research and to the ongoing development of the health economics service. Key responsibilities:

The salary range for this role is $73,400 - $90,700 depending on skills and experience

He kōrero mōu | About you

You will bring demonstrated hands on professional experience in health economic evaluation and analysis, with a sound understanding of costing, economic evaluation methods, statistical analysis and decision-analytic modelling. You will be confident contributing to research protocols, grant applications, analysis plans and evidence reviews, and communicating health economics concepts clearly to multidisciplinary research teams.

You will have a master’s degree in health economics, health policy, public health or a closely related field, with substantial formal training in health economics. You will have strong data analysis and programming skills, including competence in R, Stata, and Microsoft Office. You will be able to take ownership of assigned work with limited dayto-day supervision, while seeking guidance from the Health Economist Team Lead when methodological, scope or priority decisions require escalation.

You will be highly organised and able to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy, transparency and reproducibility. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, ethical awareness and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams are essential.

Experience in clinical or human health research, contributing to research publications or competitive grant applications, and familiarity with the Aotearoa New Zealand health and research environment would be advantageous.
