Job Description

Civil Site Inspector (Infrastructure Projects)

Job Summary

The Civil Site Inspector (Infrastructure) is responsible for inspecting and monitoring civil infrastructure construction activities to ensure that all works are executed in accordance with contract requirements, approved drawings, technical specifications, authority regulations, and applicable quality standards.

The Civil Site Inspector works under the supervision of the Assistant Resident Engineer and Resident Engineer, supporting the delivery of roads, earthworks, utilities, drainage, public realm, retaining structures, and associated civil infrastructure works through continuous site inspections, quality monitoring, testing, and documentation.

Key Job Duties

1. Site Inspection & Supervision

• Inspect daily construction activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
• Monitor contractor workmanship and verify that works are executed in accordance with approved Method Statements and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
• Report non-conforming works and monitor implementation of corrective actions.
• Verify completed works prior to inspection approval.

2. Civil Infrastructure Inspection

• Inspect roads, pavements, kerbs, footpaths, cycle tracks, earthworks, utility trenches, drainage systems, chambers, manholes, retaining structures, and public realm works.
• Verify setting out, dimensions, levels, line and grade, compaction, and workmanship.
• Ensure compliance with approved construction details and authority standards.

3. Quality Assurance & Testing

• Witness field and laboratory testing activities, including earthworks, concrete, asphalt, backfilling, and compaction tests.
• Verify that approved materials are used in the works.
• Review Work Inspection Requests (WIRs) and Material Inspection Requests (MIRs).
• Ensure inspection and testing records are properly maintained.

4. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

• Monitor contractor compliance with approved HSE requirements and environmental regulations.
• Report unsafe practices and support implementation of corrective actions.
• Promote safe construction practices throughout the project.

5. Documentation & Reporting

• Prepare daily inspection reports and maintain accurate site records.
• Record construction progress, quality observations, and site issues.
• Assist in maintaining as-built records and project documentation.
• Report inspection findings to the Assistant Resident Engineer and Resident Engineer.

6. Testing, Commissioning & Handover

• Participate in snagging, de-snagging, testing, and commissioning inspections.
• Verify completion of works prior to handover.
• Assist in preparing final inspection records and asset handover documentation.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

• Minimum 8–10 years of experience as a Civil Inspector on major infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in roads, utilities, drainage, earthworks, public realm, and civil infrastructure works.
• Experience with UAE authority specifications and inspection procedures is highly desirable.
• Experience in testing & commissioning and project handover is an advantage.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of civil construction practices, QA/QC procedures, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and international construction standards.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction inspection documentation.
• Familiarity with document management systems such as Asite is an advantage.
