Job Description

Vintage is currently seeking a Publicist to work on a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction titles both in our Vintage Originals program and across the storied Vintage backlist catalog.  This position offers the unique opportunity to both launch new books and reimagine how classics are rediscovered.

Vintage Books is the trade paperback home to the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group’s authors. Its publishing list ranges widely, from the most influential works of world literature to cutting-edge contemporary fiction and distinguished nonfiction. Vintage is today’s foremost trade paperback publisher, giving home to important writers including Margaret Atwood, James Baldwin, John Berendt, Albert Camus, Ralph Ellison, William Faulkner, David Grann, Shane Hawk, Samantha Irby, Haruki Murakami, Cormac McCarthy, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Alexander McCall Smith, Toni Morrison, Donna Tartt, Ted Van Alst, Jr., and Alice Wong.

The Publicist will be responsible for writing press materials, securing top national and regional media across print and digital, and liaising closely with authors, agents, editors, and marketing and sales colleagues. Candidates should have a passion for the literary world and a desire to connect seminal titles from across decades to current events, pop culture, and the arts. 

 Specific responsibilities include:

1. Executing media campaigns for titles across a range of genres, including securing national, regional, and niche media (radio, TV, print, online, newsletters, podcast).
2. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with producers, editors,  event coordinators, festival organizers, and booksellers.
3. Independently planning and executing author tours, including author travel, and maintaining detailed author schedules.
4. Accompanying authors to local NYC based interviews and bookselling events.
5. Communicating and building partnerships with agents, as well as managing high-touch author care.
6. Creating persuasive press materials, including press releases, pitch letters, author Q&As, and story ideas.
7. Collaborating with the editorial, marketing, and sales teams on campaign execution.
8. Identifying new media opportunities to build on existing contacts and brainstorms creative angles for our list.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3-4 years of publicity experience in a publishing environment 
• Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team setting
• Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize
• Ability to independently manage campaign budgets
• Strong attention to detail and organization skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must be a creative and strategic thinker
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Knowledge of Muck Rack, Reletter, Podchaser, or similar media databases a plus

Additional Information

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities (approximately 2-3 days a week). We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, and NY).
